Do you really hope that all people will be saved?  If there is not a lot of people in hell, then it doesn’t really matter that I get to heaven.

It’s almost like heaven is an exclusive country club for insiders only. The value of the membership is based on who is excluded as much as who is let in.

If there are so many people in hell, would it make your getting to heaven more rewarding?

We should not underestimate the greatness of God’s mercy for our sakes let alone others.  If we are trying to be like Christ, then why should we limit our love.

Actor Jim Carrey once said, “I wish everyone could get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so that they can realize it will not make them happy.”

Sometimes, we will even trade wonderful life experiences for the just okay ones.  We have fallen into a modern indifference and become incapable of experiencing joy.

Christian indifference, the type professed by St Paul, is far different. We live lives of joy no matter whether we are rich or poor. We understand what is truly wonderful and won’t compromise on the just okay.

I have heard many homilies on the Parable of the Prodigal Son.  I never understood why the older brother should not have felt aggrieved. Bishop Barron’s homily is the first time I truly understood it. This parable teaches us key lessons about our relationship with God. If we could only give in the same manner as the way God gives to us, we would find our lives would be a great celebration; just like the celebration held for the younger son on his return.
