If you are a crabby miserable person, you are missing the whole point. Jesus has come to give us joy.
During this great sermon, Bishop Barron describes 3 fundamental spiritual truths. The very nature and being of God. God’s love comes first, and we must respond to his love.
And the upshot of all these is that Jesus tells us, “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy might be complete.”

Do you really hope that all people will be saved? If there is not a lot of people in hell, then it doesn’t really matter that I get to heaven.
It’s almost like heaven is an exclusive country club for insiders only. The value of the membership is based on who is excluded as much as who is let in.
If there are so many people in hell, would it make your getting to heaven more rewarding?
We should not underestimate the greatness of God’s mercy for our sakes let alone others. If we are trying to be like Christ, then why should we limit our love.

We’ve all heard the story of how the Catholic Church treated Galileo. Even if the actual story is nuanced, there are countless other stories of devout people who saw no conflict between their religion and their scientific pursuits. People like Fr Georges Lemaitre who proposed the Big Bang Theory. Or Gregor Mendel who founded genetics and was an Augustinian monk. And the list goes on and on. The Catholic Church reverences the sciences. There should be no ambiguity about that. And it may just be that Christianity provided the ecosystem from which the sciences flourished.

Catholics do not believe that we should take the Bible literally. We read the Bible through an interpretive lens passed down from the earliest Church Fathers. We look for patterns and great trajectories through the Bible as the expression of the Wisdom of God. There is a big difference between what is in the Bible and what the Bible teaches.

How do you answer who God is? We have done a horrible job at explaining this and so many have fallen to atheism. Bishop Barron does a masterful job to explain who the true God is. He deftly describes what our Catholic view is and what atheists get wrong. We are left knowing Christianity is the greatest Humanism ever proposed.
